On the road!

I left Valdosta, GA on 17 Dec and drove to Crestview FL to see my dad. I only had one night with him but we had dinner together and got caught up.
I had my first “Cracker-docking” experience in Slidell LA and it wasn’t bad. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s boondocking, also known as dry camping (camping without electric/water/sewer hookups) at a Cracker Barrel.

After 5 states and 5 grueling days of driving, I made it to Lewisville TX on 21 Dec and after a very rough start at Lake Park Campground I got settled in and really enjoyed my time there. I’d reserved a premium site with 50-amp service but they had me in a 30-amp spot that was too short. They moved me to a beautiful spot next to the bath house with gorgeous lake views. Unfortunately, when I plugged in my surge protector it indicated there was a problem with the electricity. It also had a 30 amp plug so I used it and thought everything was okay…nope. I went to dinner with my son and when we returned, I discovered the surge protector was tripped due to a power surge. I ended up spending the night with no electricity. The next day I went to the office and explained the problem. They didn’t have any more 50-amp premium sites available so they had to move me to a smaller 30-amp site. Long story short, after a lot of trouble (and having to get help) I finally got backed in and set up. Guess what happened?! The surge protector kept tripping! I decided to get another 30-amp surge protector just to see if it would make a difference and it did. I had no more tripping issues.

I spent the week visiting with my son, Skyler, a cousin I hadn’t seen in years, and my ex-stepson and his wife and met their adorable baby girl. Even though he's live here for a year and a half, Skyler had never been to a Buc-ee's! How does that even happen? So of course I had to take him there and make him take a picture with the beaver.
Christmas day we grilled bison burgers (which were delicious) and walked around the lake. It was a very relaxing and gloriously beautiful day.

The campground was very quiet and my dog Gable enjoyed the walks around the lake. I tried taking my cat Fitzgerald on a walk but he wasn't interested - go figure!

Even with the problems I had I would still recommend the campground. It’s a city park and they aren’t putting a lot of money into fixing the electrical problems because they’re planning on building another campground. It’s a shame because the location is perfect.
Happy New Year!
