I left the Dallas area on 28 Dec and headed south. I stopped overnight in Belton TX at a Boondockers Welcome host. BW is a membership program where people who have room in their yard or on their property let RV travelers stay there for free. This was my first BW experience and it couldn’t have been nicer. The couple that hosted me has 10 acres of land and there were 2 other families staying there as well. They had a bonfire and hot chocolate for us that evening and it was so nice to meet other full-timers and hear about their experiences. Thank you Clint and Becky for being such wonder hosts!

The next day I arrived at my next stop in San Antonio. I was there to visit my friends, Tom & Denise Rutter, their girls, Nikole and Samantha, and their 7 dogs. That’s right, s-e-v-e-n dogs. It was doggy heaven!

Here are 4 of the 7 angels, Nala, Carter, Pongo and Tinkerbell (wearing the cone of shame).

I met Tom and Denise when we used to work together at Robins Air Force Base and our families went on several vacations together. Other than one dinner with Denise a couple of years ago, I hadn’t seen them since they moved to Texas about 8 years ago. We had a lot to catch up on!

Although I’ve been to San Antonio several times, Tom’s nephew was visiting so we had to take him to the Alamo and have lunch on the River Walk. It wouldn’t be a visit to SA without those two iconic places.

We also visited the Japanese Tea Gardens. What began as a rock quarry, was developed into this beautiful koi pond and gardens. Admission is FREE and it's pet friendly as long as they're on a leash.

I stayed at the RV park on Fort Sam Houston. It was a nice campground. All pull-thru sites (no backing in – yay!) and other than being close to train tracks, very quiet. The sites were big and trees provided shade.

New Year’s Eve was low key. We had dinner and I headed back to the trailer about 9pm. I did stay up to midnight though and saw the musical note (in Nashville) drop.

I had to include one last look at Nala. I know you shouldn't have favorites, but I fell in love with this sweet girl. Think Gable will be jealous if I dog nap her and bring her with us?

Thanks for the great visit San Antonio! I’ll be back next month but in the meantime I have lots of places to see…
